Referee Information

Referee sign ups for 2025! See below for the link for both new and returning referees to let us know your interest

For both USSF returning referees and returning locally trained rec refs, YSYSL requires attending an annual field session to review local law modifications and changes to the Laws of the game. For local re-certitication, YSYSL requires completing a test and reviewing provided referee videos.

Referees must be age 13 or older and have a current certification to referee games in YSYSL. YSYSL uses both locally trained recreational referees and US Soccer (USSF) certified. USSF referees receive more comprehensive training and maintain their status through mandatory renewal and re-testing. Each is detailed below.

USSF certified referees are eligible to also work competitive program and tournament games. Currently, the USSF course for new referees costs $75, plus your uniforms and equipment. YSYSL Local Course: we will be hosting local courses in 2025 to certify recreational play referees. Attendees of this course are only licensed to referee YSYSL recreational games. The YSYSL training includes a set of videos, an online test on the Laws of the Game, and a two (2) hour field session. YSYSL will provide referees with a referee shirt. All assigning is done online from the YSYSL website (Team Sideline), so please get your information in soon!
